If a person is a licensed insurance agent (Virginia) and they are convicted of a 1st time DUI offense, do they lose their license to sell insurance? If they don't lose their license, when are the companies with which the agent is appointed made aware of the conviction? Is it up to each company's rules if they are to pull the agent's appointment?

Most states and insurance companies require convictions to be reported immediately. A DUI conviction could result in a license suspension, but probably not a revocation unless there are other things in your past.

How an insurance company chooses to handle a conviction varies from company to company.

But one thing is certain . . . failure to disclose is far worse than the disclosure itself.

You must disclose all convictions after age 18. Will it hinder your ability to be licensed? Probably not, especially if you've kept your nose clean since then.

I was arrested in college for ownership of a fake id and they charged me a felony but reduced it to a misdemeanor and I believe it was expunged. I have not gotten my fingerprints done yet but I have passed the exam... I'm assuming the fingerprints will show the misdeanor at the very most. Will they allow me to obtain the agent license?

Well, college could have been last year or 50 years ago or somewhere in between. Whether the crime was "expunged" or not, it must still be reported, and you will have to provide a copy of the court order concerning the original conviction. Failure to disclose the conviction in your application for a license is about as close to a death sentence as you can get, so if you didn't report it, good luck. If you did report it, expect to have to explain it to a judge.

Im taking my California state exam tomorrow for a life agent. How difficult will it be for me to obtain the license w/ a misdemeanor for paraphernalia in 2011/12. And in 2010 I got arrested for intent to distribute marijuana but was never convicted and was later expunged. I have kept my nose clean since then and trying to make a name for myself and be successful. Any help or advice I can get to improve my chances of getting my license? Thanks!

You will very likely be called to an administrative hearing to explain why you should be granted a license. Your offenses will be characterized as lacking in integrity and that it would not be in the public interest for you to be licensed. Your offenses are too recent to be able to say "I have kept my nose clean."

I am also concerned with your statement about "later expunged". If you were not convicted, there would be nothing to expunge. So why make this statement?

I was found guilty after The girl wanted to drop charges. I was at the seen and jjust tried to pull the one person off. Well I guess I have a misdemeanor on me now for that. But in the records say the arresting officer is the person who the fight was with. That was 7 urs ago. Will that stop me getting my license and could I ft that ex sponged due to the fact that they have it wrong..

Not likely to be a major problem, but all convictions must be reported in your license application, even those later expunged by the court. Only the Insurance Commissioner knows the answer to your question.
