The trunk of your car – that magnificent place which has been provided to you by car manufacturers to store those things that you might need while traveling by road. If you've ever used it to keep anything back there you would know just how convenient and comfortable its existence makes our drive. Some of us do not keep anything in it, while others can stuff it up with things that would make it possible for them to live inside the car for up to a fortnight. In any case, it is always good to know that the trunk of the car is always there whenever you decide to head out for a road trip with truckload of stuff without any worry. Although you can use the car trunk to keep a host of things, there are a few essentials that you need to keep back there at all times. It is possible that you might get caught unawares in some sort of an emergency and help might not be at hand. In such cases it is always better to be prepared. If you agree with the motto of 'Being Prepared,' then read on to know more about necessary things that should always be found in the trunk of your car. Copies of Necessary Documents The necessary documents that always need to be present in the trunk of your car (or in the glove compartment) are photocopies of your driver's license, the car's registration and insurance papers. All car insurance companies provide insurance buyers with papers related to the terms and conditions, validity date, provision of road assistance and so on. Make sure you have these in your car whenever you decide to go for a spin and produce them as and when required to prevent any kind of legal action against you. Instruction Manual As unnecessary as it might sound right now, do not underestimate the use of the owner's manual. Picture this – you're stuck with a flat tire in the middle of nowhere with no other person or any sign of civilization in sight that you could ask for help. This is the time where the humble owner's manual or instruction manual becomes your hero. This manual can be a lifesaver as it contains all that information you'll be requiring on the procedure of changing the flat tire and much more. Spare Tire and Car Tool Kit In case you suffer a flat tire, you're going to need a spare tire which is in good condition to replace it with. And to be able to do so, you're going to need a tool kit that comprises a tire jack and tire iron. Once you have these in place, you can refer to the instruction manual and either repair or change the tire by following the mentioned step-by-step procedure. Flashlight Let's face it, you're going to need a flashlight too while changing your car tire, especially if it's dark. And what if there isn't sufficient light around in the day too? You won't have to worry because you'll already have equipped yourself with a flashlight (with charged batteries). First Aid Kit If you're wise, you probably already have this in your car trunk. It is always prudent to keep a first aid box that consists of medical supplies like adhesive plasters, cotton roll, antiseptic lotion, crepe bandages and sterile dressing, aspirin, medicated creams for skin irritation and burns and a pair of scissors. In case of a medical emergency, help from the first aid kit should do you good until you're in a position to engage the services of a doctor. Booster Cables These can help you jump start your car's dead batteries back to life so that you can speed away without wasting any time and reach your desired destination safe and sound. Water Bottles and Energy Bars You never know which situation you might have to face and how long you're going to have to wait till you get back home. Surely you cannot go without food and water for long periods of time. Hence, it makes sense to store some of those much loved energy bars and water bottles in your car. Watch out for the expiry dates on them from time to time and replace them when necessary. Radio You're going to have to keep a track of the weather conditions and the latest happenings in your area just in case you get lost and don't know what to do next. Map This too is in relation to the above point. I know, I know - you have a smartphone with GPS enabled in it. But what if you lose your phone or its battery discharges? To avoid completely relying on GPS, always carry a map and figure your way out of that maze. Blankets & Towels A blanket always comes in handy when you have no choice but to spend the night in your car. Also, if you're trapped in some place due to bad weather, you could always use a blanket to keep yourself warm and comfortable while you sit in your car. In the absence of a blanket, towels can prove to be useful in keeping you warm in cold weather or in case you get wet in the rains. You might even want to carry a change of clothes to be able to get out of your wet clothes. Portable Cellphone Charger It is important for your cellphone to be in working condition during emergencies so you can communicate with your loved ones and keep them abreast of your whereabouts so that they feel reassured. A portable cellphone charger will help in recharging your cellphone batteries so that it stays operational. To Conclude A convenient way of keeping all of the aforementioned items together in one place in your car is by putting them together systematically in a box and placing the box in the trunk of your car so that you don't have to look around in ten different places to find them. During emergencies, it is always better to find all such important things in one place rather than spend time looking for them.
