Geico insurance company - reviews

Wow! thats so close a competition going around this forum!
Its nice to see Allstate, State farm, AmFam all getting screwed in a row..
Why on Earth did you guys miss Geico..anyone willing to share a Geico review??
Awaiting your responses before I'd share my own experience ahead..

Hi PalinRome..

I was about to start a thread on Geico reviews, but you made my job easier..its good that you have given me an opportunity to share what even the smaller brand names are capable of..
i'm sure many of the community members who are pleased with Geico services would be surprised to know my experience-

It was back in 11/10/2005 that I contacted Geico insurance company after a brief gap in order to restore my policy..I was informed that I'd need to pay whatever my dues were as per their records in order to proceed with the same. Once their quote was offered to me..they didn't take much time to re-inform me that since my boyfriend was staying with me.. it would not be the same quote ($311) as we had discussed earlier. Even when I told that he has his own insurance in place & in case they need any information regarding that I'd be glad to fax them those information, little did they pay any heed to my words..& I was again told that if I chose to opt for it I'd need to add him with me & also pay Geico worth around $2000 initially rather than the earlier amount. I didn't quite feel it was feasible for me to accept it under those terms & agreed to call them once if I change I mind.

Again I had the opportunity to call geico on 11/22/05, I could tell them how I had parted ways with my boyfriend & had shifted to my own apartment downtown. This time I was quite amazed to see them offering me a quote worth $600 which they said was owning to my new residence falling nearer to the inter state 78 which had a higher accident rating. I had chosen to consult a friend rather than leaping into twice the amount I was initially offered just for the sake or a couple of miles shift. But it was just a score of minutes that I called them back to let them know about my acceptance of the same. This time I had a word with an agent called Erin who explained how it was easier to make my payments through the electronic check payment system, & once I followed it she even told me that I was fully covered from that moment onwards. I was quite glad to know that my insurance card would be faxed to me & that the coverage papers would be following soon. We then hung up thanking each other.

The next time I called Geico was on 12/01/05...since there were no signs of my card (which was to be faxed) as also the paperworks which was to be sent to me. This time I had used the voice mail facility of my cell phone & surprisingly got through the same girl that I had talked the earlier time. This time the girl had agreed that there indeed was a notification of my the call that I made of 11/22/05 but that there was no sign of the acceptance of my electronic payment. She seemed too sorry for the malfunction & agreed to process the payment once more this time being quicker at accepting it. My bank name was verified as she sought the permission to collect $471 from my check-in account. This time also like the previous time I had to give her my fax no. to send me my temporary insurance card. Once the coverage was restored she informed smiling that my car was well covered this time. That was the last I heard from her.

It was well past 12/03/05 that I still didn't hear anything from Geico & was still without the possession of my card. With the feeling that I'm covered..I went out with my car that night & met with an accident. It was quite the next day that I had called to report my loss & file my claim. I was in for a shock when the agent told me how the status of my policy was being shown as 'cancelled'.
I was being put through their customer service agent Jennifer who was of the same opinion & tried her best to establish that it was my fault & that my policy was extinct. They denied my chances of having talked with Erin for the second time due to a system check. Then she enquired as to whether my payment had been effective in my bank account. Since there was no such payment deduction on my account, she shrugged her shoulders. I kept on asking why Geico didn't inform me that they didn't process my payment & that I was not covered. On the other hand she kept on pushing me to the brink stating that it was not their job to inform the customers about their payment status & that it was all up to me to know whether I was covered or not. It was then that I argued on the fact that I'd agreed to the electronic payment which itself signifies a bond.

Upon my request the service agent had me through their supervisor Jaime who again got stuck to the point of confirmation numbers for my two checks. Once I nodded my head, he laughed to blame it on my carelessness. I was told that I do not have access to their manager Jose since the gentleman was out of town & that they can't lead me to Erin's supervisor under any circumstances. I was asked to restore my policy for the third time to which I did not agree.

What I felt bad was this man (Jaime) kept on doubting I had called them on 11/22 & 12/01. He didn't pay any heed to my requests to check the callers lists through my voice mail since it would be the same way its to come in the statement. To end it all..I left several voice messages to Jose's mail box but to no avail. However someone from the claims dept. had called me in 7th dec to have my statement recorded & conveyed to the underwriters. Now, I'd simply ask you guys- is geico insurance good?

Hi dear...there is something that I didn't quite understand over here..

As I understood the first time you were to get your insurance card faxed to you by 11/22. Again on 12/01 you were to get your card & they were to deduct the payment from your bank account accordingly. This they say they forgot eventually. Then how on Earth did you forget about your cards & recalled them only after you had met with that accident? I'm not gonna buy that so easily! :) GBarclay

Actually it would not. A contract s not formed until a promise is made (offer of insurance) and compensation is given for that promise (payment). So until GEICO receives payment, there is not insurance contract (policy) enforce.

The _real_ question is why the payment did not go through. Were incorrect account/routing numbers used? Were their sufficient funds in the account, etc.

While the situation is unfortunate, keep in mind that it's illegal to drive a vehicle without proper proof of insurance... which is what was being done here. The best situation is to have insurance on all registered vehicles (which it appears you did not) and only drive those vehicles with proof of insurance. Again, it's too bad that this happened, but you did put yourself in a bad position of not allowing for _anything_ to go wrong by applying for insurance, requiring proof of insurance that same day, and driving without proof of insurance.

No insurance, asked for insurance on 11/22 and an at-fault accident on 12/3... ouch.

See, if we go back & look at it..I see that the reason why I called them on the 1st since the policy information didn't reach me within time. Next thing that I mistook was that - since the temporary thing didn't reach me through the fax, probably it was coming via mail along with my policy papers. Thats why I don't think there was anything wrong in my side & that Geico should have employees with real expertise.

I understand that and I understand that it was a bad situation... but from your post it appears that you needed to obtain a policy asap (or even prior to the day you asked for it) and that you choose to drive w/o proof of insurance. What I'm saying is that you placed yourself in a position of not having insurance when you should have had it and then needing proof of insurance immediately. This leaves no room for errors. On top of that, when the cards did not arrive, you choose to drive anyway. By doing that, you're placing yourself in an even worst situation in that your driving illegally (no proof of insurance).

What we don't know is what went wrong with the payment. I don't see why GEICO would not want to collect the money from your account so I'm wondering if something else went wrong (wrong account number, wrong routing number, NFS, etc).

listen...my dear friend..you may not agree with my Geico complaints..but I didn't forget about those cards..its just that I didn't come across a Geico fraud ever before..so I simply started believing that the cards were gonna come along with my policy papers.

I had a word with an underwriting agent who got me this message about a cancellation letter being dropped at my earlier address (& see it was well past an year)..so it could not have been my fault. All they have to say is that they didn't have any updates of my new address till 10/19/05. How did I receive the bill on my recent address on 09/26/05 ? I must say somethings gone wrong!

Of course there is!
I'd simply wonder how you had forgotten to check your account balance once you had agreed to their terms & paid out over the phone. Again I'd wonder- why you got stuck with Geico if you were not satisfied?

Understood... but understand that you contributed to that house of cards on many levels (you started building it by allowing the lapse in coverage). Also, you never mentioned what the problem was with the payment. That is the real issue.
