It should be available in most, if not all 50 states. You should contact your insurance agent if you need an individual major medical policy. If you're with one of the traditional preferred auto insurers, then call them up and ask for your options (Allstate, Nationwide, State Farm, etc.). Most agencies can help, or at least refer you to another agent. If not, call up an independent agent to get your options.

When we were shopping for coverage, I got a major medical with tied HSA. The premiums are lower and the extra HSA funding we pay every month goes into our bank account, not the insurance company coffers. I like that sort of arrangement.

CARINSURANCEGUY.........can you tell me a little bit more on how you went about getting your medical? Medical plans are SOOOO expensive. However..... when I read the above posts, I'm not sure if you were taling about medical insurance being 'tied-into' a car insurance policy or not. Hope you understand my question.

You're right, Chargerfan. I could see how you might read that. My auto policy is in no way tied to my two health policies. What I meant to say is that a normal agency (captive or non-captive) should be able to provide some health insurance options. I should have been more clear.

For instance, at State Farm we sold Assurant health plans (individual, short term, student, etc.). We didn't have our own product, but we contracted with another company. Those agencies can be a good starting place for researching the right health policies.

Interestingly enough, I didn't pick up my 2nd health policy from Assurant after I left State Farm. I liked a Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy better, so I bought it.

You aren't kidding, health insurance is soooo expensive.

My former employment had Assurant. The only thing I had, through them, was 'Accidental Death' ( I think..). For some reason the employees couldn't get 'full' policy through them. I'm not sure why. When I talk to Assurant over the phone ( then..) they seemed pretty nice and willing to help with other things.

SD didn't the employer give you a reason why you couldn't get the full policy? Sometimes it is just better to go and get your own private insurance when it comes to accidental death and death itself. At least you know you are covered as long as you pay the premiums.

Cancer insurance is one such policy that offers coverage for treatment. Health insurer will normally consider it as a pre-existing condition and therefore will not cover if you are diagnosed with such health condition before applying for the policy.

Cancer insurance policy may offer lump sum benefits for diagnosis and treatment for cancer. Policies that offer higher and more composed benefits may cost higher than normal health plans.

Cancer insurance unlike the traditional health plans offer coverage only for a particular health condition and is also known as specified disease or dreaded disease policy.

Hope the input helps.

Well, FIREYONE..........the reason why the employees couldn't get the 'full policy' was because we weren't working 'full time'. Part time: less than 35 hours per week. Full time: more than 40 hours per week. Of course, our employee is the one who filled out the paperwork. However...I was ALWAYS working 40+ per week. I hate to say this, but, with my LAST employer one of the 'factors' was who she liked and who she din't. I tried calling Assurant several times about this issue......all they could say was it "depended on what the employee had on paper." So.......that's ONE of MANY reasons why I don't work there anymore.

Thats really rude but I have seen my share of these types of people. I would have called her to the plate and gave her a shamed face. You could have copied all your pay stubs and made a paper complaint ot go along with them and sent them to Assurant. I would have also thretened to turn them in. Problem is some of those in higher places like to look down at the ones below not thinking they have power...

Well......FIREYONE, I DID go 'over her head' and talked to HER supervisor. However, I din't get anywhere. I even faxed my paystubs to the 'head office.' Still..........nothing was done. This was one of SEVERAL problems I had with them.

You don't work for them any longer right? Quite ignorant on their part to deny someone who rightfully deserves benefits.
