how to tell people that [AIG] still remain strong althought AIG is facing financial problems

You're kidding, right?

The United States Government just propped them up with $123,000,000,000 BILLION DOLLARS.

AIG, for all intents and purposes, IS out of business.

No agents are going to put new business with AIG.

Clients who have AIG will go with another company because they no longer trust AIG.

Agents with clients with AIG will either move them to a new carrier or some "other" agent will.
As an agent you either move 'em or lose 'em as clients.

AIG has been a bllsht organization for over 10 years.

Most all males age 40 non-smoker can't get $250,000 of life insurance for less than $15 dollars per month. The premium is closer to $30 dollars per month just like all the other reputable life insurance carriers for ten year level term.

If your Mother had a pimple on her nose prior to age 60 or if your Father broke wind prior to age 60 they'll pop you with the standard rates regardless of YOU being a perfect physical specimen in ALL underwriting criteria.

Well first let me defend AIG.

That company trip/convention would have been bought and paid for 18 months to 2 years in advance. The $440,000 was already spend. Whether they went or not, the hotel, plane fare, travel arrangments, etc. were already paid. And it wasn't for the AIG fat cat bass towards it was for the "Joe the plumber" independent agents.

With that being said, actually going on the trip typifies the type of bonehead management at AIG. It also shows systemic arrogance along with a total detachment of management from reality.

AIG is still in denial, but they are GONE.
