If you are a life insurance sales agent in the state of Georgia, can you legally hire a telemarketer to make cold calls for you to set up appointments?

As long as Georgia allows telemarketing calls to people NOT on the Do Not Call list.

the reason i ask is because my manager thinks it may be illegal to have someone who is not licensed "solicit insurance" appointments for me. i don't know why she thinks that, but i wanted to find out if there is some way i can prove it is legal. any help? thanks!

Ahh...ok.

It's a fine line. If your unlicensed telemarketer is soliciting appointments, then it's ok. Once they start talking about specific policies, cost, coverages, etc...then that could be a problem.

I ran into the same situation with Life appointments. One of my staff isn't licenses in Life and Health. She simply asks people if they are satisfied with their current life insurance. If the answer is no, she says that I have someone on staff who is very well versed in the different products that are available. Would they like to sit down with them and have him review their current policies? If they answer is yes, then the same thing..sit down and review.

That is all kosher - no mention of specific products, etc.

You could always contact your states dept of ins...(they have a web site) and this could be answered very quicly and acruately by them.

I'm not sure if the state of Georgia has some special rule against hiring telemarketing executives by the business houses. As far I know, the insurance agents are allowed to hire telesales executives for their businesses in the country. It's infact an age old practice. And they can continue doing so till the point they are not violating the state guidelines regarding calling the prospects.

Hence, if you continue abiding by the rules I see no issues in hiring the telemarketing executives.

You can hire a telemarketer to set appointments but not sell. You need a license to close the deal. I use to do that for years when i didn't have a license. You can't get any personal info but you can ask the clients if they would like a quote and have a agent call them back.
