To become an agent all you really need to do is pass a test, then get E and O, however there is a lot more to be successful.

Contact the branch manager (not an agent) of an insurance company you like and tell him/her you want to come to work for them. They will undoubtedly call you in for an interview, maybe give you some sort of placement questionnaire, and probably recommend an insurance school.
If you signed a pre-employment contract with them, some companies will reimburse you for the time and money you spent on your prelicensing training. They'll give you a salary for a year or two and expect you to sell enough insurance to cover your paycheck (this is called a "draw.' The training will usually be done in-house and you'll have more experienced agents to help you along.

Stay away from Primerica, American Income Life, National Income Life, and Americo. Those are not places you wanna be.

Good luck, message me if you have any other questions.

Hi dave, you have been guided towards the right direct by the members of this community. Its true that you're required to obtain the license before starting the career as an agent.

You also have to decide whether you would like to become a life agent or would like to pursue career in the line of P&C and is required to search for employer as well as the license accordingly. The licensing requirements are different for different line of insurance. However, normally, you may have to complete 40 hrs of pre-licensing training before obtaining the license.
