Canceled car insurance

Can an auto insurance policy be resumed after it was canceled? For example your car insurance was canceled by you for certain reasons, and after a few month, you want to resume your car insurance protection. Is it possible to resume it without undergoing the same process? Or you should be issued a new car insurance policy?

For automobile insurance the most efficient way to get a good rate is do a rate comparison on auto policies. Make certain that you choose similar options with the same limits, car type, location, etc so that all options are a good comparison.

If it is within a 30 day period you should be able to reinstate the policy. Most companies will not allow you to do this after 30 days you would have to have a new policy written and you would have a lapse of insurance.

joven, allowing the policy holder to reinstate his/her canceled policy will depend upon the company's policies. Normally, all insurer allow the client to reinstate his/her policy within 30 days grace period after the date of renewing the policy without charging any penalty for the same.

Beyond the 30 days limit the insurer may or may not allow reinstating the cancelled policy. Even if they allow, the policy holder will then be required to clear all the due premiums installments before the policy get reinstated.

Hi joven, it may not be possible to reinstate a cancelled without undergoing the underwriting procedure simply because with time your insurability changes.

The insurer might have to ponder over your driving record and other deciding parameters to ascertain your insurability. They will run a check on your report to see

  • If you had any accident during this period

  • Whether there is any moving violation or any other form of traffic violation in you driving license

  • DUI conviction or driving license suspension

  • Whether there is any judgement awaiting against you or not

The list can grow longer.

However, if the reason for canceling the policy remains the non-payment of premium, the insurer may decide not to offer you coverage in the future.

Juanita
