if the settlement agent can only give you x dollar amount, why would I be asked to find 3 vehicles like mine fax them to him and than he calls the dealers to get the cost down, to justify giving me the dollar amount he wants to give me. I really don' t understand, it does not make any sense why he will not give me the average original asking price of the vehicles I found like mine was before their client destoyed it. Its crazy for him to get the dealers to make a deal with him, offer that cost to me and expect for that vehicle and offer to be there by the time I receive the settlement. It is also crazy for them to think they are putting be back where I was before the accident when I am forced to buy a used vehicle as is, I am subject to getting vehicle repair problems, my vehicle was well taken care of, it was a 2002 Nissian Pathfinder, I had already replaced the items that had to be raplaced keeping it in good running order, I really don't think that kind of care is put in a vehicle if it is not intened to be kept by the owner, this is why I do not trust buying used.

actually that is the adjusters job, UNLESS you were disputing the value, which was it? did he ask you to do this at the onset of the claim or after you told him your vehicle was worth more than he thought it was? that i can understand you have to prove your loss, but not if he asked you to do this at the beginning please explain that part better...

He probably ask them their 'take' price, lots of companys do this..and really it's accruate, you'd be owed what you can 'buy' it for not what they are 'asking' for it...could be this company's SOP or could be you ticked the adjuster off some how and they went the 'extra' mile to reduce the pay out..either way it's perfectly legal, ethical and actually what you are owed...I really don't think that kind of care is put in a vehicle if it is not intened to be kept by the owner, this is why I do not trust buying used
I see your point (alittle) and certainly understand your frustration, but on the other hand it doesn't make sense...when you were ready to buy a new vehicle you would've either traded or sold yours right? are you saying no one should've trusted you or your used vehicle to be in good shape or as you represent it? course not....Kitty what exactly are the numbers difference? How did the rep initally come up with your vehicles value? what do you think it's worth and what does he think it's worth? what state are you in? The vehicles found are they true comp vehicles? meaning pretty close to what you have? have you looked at the one you would be most interested in? or are you not going to replace it with one of these (and you don't have to)...? Or do you plan to use the money to purchase a new vehicle? Let us know and maybe we can find something to help you...

OP, how many times have you paid the initial asking price of a vehicle? If you have always done this... please let me know who you are as I have a few vehicles I'd like to sell you. The buying/selling of vehicles is a hold out to when people would barter on a price as such, what the adjuster is wanting to do is not out of the question.
But I don't see why a dealer would waste much of their time on that negotiation. The sales person's only interest in giving a lower price is if they think you are going to use that price and go to them to buy that car. While that may happen, the odds are not that good. So I can see the sales person lowering their price a little but probably not what you could get if you spent an hour a two "beating them up" over the price.
Frankly, if the adjuster wants _you_ to find the vehicles like yours, I'd error on the side of vehicles that had more options and were in much better condition then yours. That is, are you really going to find an exact match to yours? Of course not... so I'd error on finding vehicles that were worth more then your vehicle. If the adjuster does not like that then he/she should be the one looking for vehicles. Not making you do the work.
I had already replaced the items that had to be replaced keeping it in good running order, I really don't think that kind of care is put in a vehicle if it is not intended to be kept by the owner, this is why I do not trust buying used.
While this may be true to a certain degree, there is no way to know. Even if you kept up your vehicle, the engine might have gave out next week. Perhaps it would have failed in a year. Perhaps the vehicle you buy will last 10 years with no problems. Yes, I'd feel much better about keeping your vehicle I can't disagree with that. It's never a good thing when you lose your vehicle due to no fault of your own.I'd also _highly_ recommend that you have a good inspector go over the car your going to buy. They can check the compression of the engine, condition of the belts, etcs. This will give you some piece of mind.
