Insurance claim

I went away for a well earned break it was my birthday and anniversary, while I was away my car had been stolen, never to be seen again.

I was upset about it as I had my own number plate, I did love the car, although we had looked at other cars to eventually upgrade to, as we swap our cars every 2 to 3 years because we never worry about mot's and breakdowns etc.

When I reported my car stolen they passed me to what I can only explain as a fraud place, which is a shock to me as I have never done anything wrong in my life Trying to get answers from them is like trying to get blood from a stone. I had my key with me and my spare key was at home, now they are saying they have sent the keys off for forensics and there is a problem with the keys, which is a complete surprise to me but they won't tell me anything, I asked for the report and asked for my keys back so I could have a second opinion, as they have taken weeks to say this to me, everyone seems to be on annual leave when I ask what is going on, I am having no proper feed back. I totally understand they need to investigate the theft, and I am fully with them if they need any help, but it doesn't help me. I am getting stressed now, just want a decision on what they are doing, if they don't believe me I will have to get a solicitor to act on my behalf, as my car was lovely and a great loss to me. I have had to buy another car to drive around in until they decide as I have back trouble and can't manage without a car. If it sounds like I am dodgy I can assure you I am not and will go all the way to prove my car has been taken without my knowledge or consent. My car was a beautiful nissan xtrail.

I'm not sure what the problem with the keys could be or how this could be an issue unless the vehicle was recovered.

How long ago was the claim filed?

Are you in the US? I ask because you used the term "solicitor". Which we don't hear much in the states, (generally 'lawyer' or 'attorney')...Some company's operate differently with theft losses turning all over to their SIU (special investigation unit). Most don't do this any more...Is there anything in your recent past that would flag them? Such as late payments ? Other thefts or fires? Please explain more about this 'key' business...we aren't understanding it...Where was the vehicle stolen from? Your house, garage, where?

English.

Yes I am English.

My car was stolen from outside my sister's house, it was a last minute decision as I was going to leave it at the airport, but my other sister was coming away too, so her husband decided to pick us up from my sister's house and drop us all to the airport together.

The vehicle has not been recovered.

I am still unaware what problem they can get from the key's as one was with me the other at home.

I have never missed a payment.

The only concern I think they could have had is that I looked at part exchanging my car. I wanted a sporty car, my husband wanted a bigger 4 x 4,we were just looking, it was very hard to find a car as nice as the one we had, so we decided to hold onto it for longer.

I have never been in trouble, the only thing I have ever claimed for is a tv, which I dropped and broke, which was examined by the insurer's and then paid out. Other than that nothing.

I am a law abiding person, which is why I am finding it so difficult to understand that I am being investigated, I know they need to look into things, but it is not very nice.

Apparently they are sending all documentation back to my insurer's monday so either way I should hear something very soon.

Wish me luck

I do wish you luck mishhd, I wish we knew more about how insurance claims are handled in England! I (atleast) don't know if they have and 'fair claims practice laws' or dept of insurance, that can assist you if you feel you are not being taken care of fairly.

I see nothing in your post that should have raised a 'red flag' to any investigator. Please do keep us updated, and I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time with this claim, and sure wish I could offer more information. It shouldn't be this way...

Thanks, its nice to think that there are nice people out there, I just needed to off load my feelings and get it out of my system I think, It is quite wierd because before I said I was going to see a solicitor, the woman dealing with my claim dealt with me directly and put her name to it now she just puts the company name instead of her own. I will let you know how I get on
