I do not own a car but rent 6-8 times a year usually I rent for a week at a time.Is there a low cost alternative to buying cdw/ldw
from the car rental agency? I usually end up paying more for the coverage than I do for the car.
Thanks

Non-owners insurance if you can find it.

I'd second Tcope, the regular renters should get non-owners coverage as it would lower their costs of buying renters coverage everytime.

The non-owners policy would also cover you when you drive a friend's car, i.e. the protection with the non-owners policy goes beyond the rented vehicle and offer wider rage of coverage to the insured.

Hope this helps.

True Rick B, Rental insurance is what you need. But make sure that you get a proper one. Analyze your needs before you buy insurance. With a skimpy insurance you will only again end up paying more every time. When you are out shopping for car rental insurance also inquire if there are exclusions. By that I mean they may have certain vehicles that they do not cover.

So, if you are driving your friend's sports car without knowing whether your rental insurance covers it or not, you might be in trouble.
