I have auto insurance (in SC). A few days back I'd met with an accident and received a ticket upon failing to show my insurance proof. They say, that this fault is not "correctable" and that I've to bear the entire amount. What do I do?

(Just my '2 cents')...I live in PA. When I was in my auto accident, I didn't have proof of Insurance either (I should say, I had Insurance, but..didn't have the proof in the car.). The Police Officier gave me a '5 day warning' to get the proof and give him a copy of it.

Did you fail to show proof of insurance at the time of the accident? If so, it sounds like you'd be guilty. You could dispute the citation and see what a judge might do for you. Though you'd basically be asking for a "favor" in that you had insurance, just could not provide proof at the time. A judge might throw out the citation, a judgment might lower the fine or he/she might allow it to remain and charge you court costs. Traffic judges are unpredictable.

TSCOPE.....is that kind of 'law' different in each state? I couldn't show proof of Insurance, at the time of the accident, either.

I don't know of any state that does not require you to show proof of insurance. Just like you need to have your drivers license with you (not just have one). This does not mean the officer is required to issue a citation, it's the officers discretion.

Well, it can't be termed as "correctable" if they've spotted you without the necessary coverage proof at the accident scene. But I'm sure, the penalty would be a lot less than what they'd have charged you for not bearing coverage.

As per the laws in some states, it's mandatory that you show proof of insurance at the accident site. You can't just redo the same accident, hence it's not correctable.

The 16028(c) violation is not correctable. Plead "no contest" for a 22350 violation.

So.............in MY accident, the policeman could have fined me? Well......I'm glad he didn't.
