Hello, just wondering if anyone can answer this. Iam aware, that when you file a claim with your auto insurer that if they have an investigator come out to you it costs them money and they must have reason. Does that most likely mean they probably will deny the claim? I mean what are the grounds for them to deny a claim if it was active etc at the time of accident? If someone says you where drinking or if you where? Or if you did not make an accident report? Does someone have a logical answer?

Technically it might cost the carrier money... it depends on who they send out (salaried employer of if they hire an independent). Your question is very vague, so the answer will need to be as well. The insurance company can deny a claim for anything not covered under the policy. It could also deny the claim is there was material misrepresentation. Driving drunk is not excluded nor is it misrepresentation. Neither is not notifying the police.

Driving DUI is not excluded under the policy. If they find out about it, your policy will almost surely be non-renewed.
Also, lying to your insurance company will get your policy non-renewed but it probably won't result in a denial. Lying under oath _will_ probably get your claim denied... but this is usually done at an attorneys office.

Hi jones, The insurance companies normally involve their investigation departments when they suspect fraud in a claim process. Hence, there are high possibilities that the claim might get denied.
You were driving drunk, but have reported that your car was stolen
I'd be surprised if the carrier entertains this claim and like tcope has said, it'll make the policy non-renewable in the future.

You did say this...

 :) Be honest honest with us Jony we aren't the adjusters handling your claim...just tell us what happened and also what you told the carrier, we'll be in a better position to help you ok?I will tell you this that if the SIU (special investigation unit) or some such investigator is called in that is because they suspect some sort of fraud...I will further tell you that about half of these claims (at the VERY LARGE company I work for) are subsequently denied...
We'd be happy to help or advise you if we can, but need more info...

Jonesboro there's no way for me to respond back to you privately (in response to your message to me) because you haven't signed up (you're still in guest status)...If you want me to respond privately and not in this thread you need to register then pm or drop me a message again...
Let me say that...I still need to know what you turned into your carrier...what did you tell them when you turned in the claim...???? that's where we'll be able to figure out a little better if it's likely they will deny it or not...

HI Jonesboro
An investigator coming out doesn't mean they are going to deny your auto insurance claim. You haven't given much in the way of specific information.
Was it actually an investigator coming out or was it an adjuster? The investigations department could be looking for fraud as that does happen. On the other hand, and adjuster coming out is simply to verify the facts and assess the damage. This ensures that you get a satisfactory claim payment and the insurer does not pay more than necessary, protecting its other policy holders.
I agree with the other posters that there isn't any reason for the claim to be denied. But there is a chance of non-renewal.
