I was involved in an accident at a stop light where I should have yeilded to the other car but did not. After the accident I found out my insurance expired last week. No cops were called and I gave he my information. I told her to contact me after she got the damage looked at.
What can I do now? I renewed my insurance as soon as I got to work. I'm sure this will come out of my pocket, correct?

Yes, you will need to pay for the other person's loss out of your pocket.

jjoyner1019, Yes it will come out of your pocket. The other persons insurance company will more than likely repair the persons car and then come after you to get reimbursed. This is a good example of why some should get their insurance automatically drafted from their checking accounts. You would never forget about making a payment or driving woth out insurance. Did your insurance company send you letters or call and tell you your insurance had lasped? Usually almost all insurers will do this. Hope you get everything worked out and keep tabs on your insurance. Good luck.

Yes, the other posters are right....you're liable to compensate the other driver for her losses. But, first of, you are required to get the estimate of the damage. And, if you can't make the payment at one shot, you may try to set-up a payment plan with her.

Juanita

I have had them get the estimate and I have paid for the parts for the repair shop to begin the work monday, am I obligated to furnish her with a rental car? They haven't mentioned it just want to know my obligations before it comes up.
Thanks for the help.

I would imagine if the persons car is undrivable you may have to pay for a rental car. Hopefully they have another vehicle around so that this doesn't have to happen. If you are working with the person and garage yourself I would not bring up about the rental unless asked. Is the shop giving you pr the other person any time frame that they will have this vehicle repaired. Some only take a matter of days and if this is the case a rental m ay not even be worth the other persons hassle. I would just wait to see if it is brought up.
