My husband was in an accident that was not his fault. What should we do. Do we contact the other persons insurance company or what? I have no clue what the next step it to get his truck fixed. This happened in the state of Missouri and we live in Illinois.

Depends... do you have collision coverage on your policy?

If you don't have collision coverage you will need to contact the other insurance company and report the claim. You will need to have them address your loss.

If your lucky, Lori will handle your claim.

If you have collision coverage you can either do the above or file the claim under your own policy, initially be subject to your deductible but then your carrier will pursue recovery from the other parties carrier. If they can collect, then your carrier will refund your deductible back to you at that time. Recovery can take a few months.

merrellad, is your vehicle driveable? are you still in MO or is your vehicle still in MO? Contact both your carrier, and the other carrier asap, and report the claim to both...hopefully liablity is clear and the other party's carrier can jump on it quickly and get your vehicle taken care of...if you are back home in Ill that is no problem either, they will repair it there as well...let us know if we can be of any assistance to you once you have the claims reported....sorry your experience in the great Show Me State was less than pleasant.. :(

Well, it seems that the experts are at work already :)

Merrellad, you are required to inform your insurer about the incident and as tcope has said, can also file the claim with your carrier.

However, if you are certain about the liability of the other party and have the required information on the other driver's insurance, you should go ahead and file the claim against his/her policy.

Thanks,
Rupert

I think its better with to do as per tcope's idea or you try to find an attorney who will help you to solve this problem and get you more compensation than what you are thing to get.
