no accident or dui was involved. I could not afford insurance because I was unemployed. Is SR22 required?

my wife and i have geico weve had it for 3 months our bill is due on the 18th today is the 11th of may .we cannot pay it til the 3rd june.how can we avoid suspension. i know geico has to give us 10 days i imagine they automatically send it on the 19th.am i right? that would give us til the 29th but then would be cancelled.i hear the state of florida will send out a letter bfore your suspended .how much time do they give you to prove you have coverage ?or do they auto suspend you? also does anyone have experience with geico will they give me to the 3rd like i need?if they say no should i talk to a higher up? please help
