Well, I just wished to know if there are grace periods for paying auto insurance premiums like there are towards home owners!

I guess it is possible...though Lori would be a better person to explain that to you. As far as I remember of the home owners policies, they'd generally offer you a grace period of 30 days. But cancellation beyond the grace period would depend on the state laws I guess!

I know this might be a somewhat off the wall answer but ....

Ask your agent what the grace period is. I'm betting he/she would tell you.

In truth there is no 'grace' period for either policy...some companys will allow a policy to stay enforce if the prem is received within 10 days of the renewal...you need to ask your agent of policy services.

I have my car policy through Nationwide. The 'grace period' is 10 days. However....I think with THEM, dpending on what 'risk factor' you are in, depends on the cancelling the policy, or not, if your OVER the 10 days. A few times, I went over the 10 days..however, all I had to do was pay for 2 months, to keep the policy 'in effect.'

Sure you can have your auto insurance canceled if you fail to make your payment by the due date. You will most likely be warned, but don't rely on this in case something happen to the mail or etc. You should always pay your policy on time and if you can't for any reason, you should notify your agent or company and let them know exactly when they can expect payment to prevent any lapse in coverage.

Yep......and if you KNOW your payment is going to be late, it might be a good idea to contact your insurance agent and let them know. Maybe they will beable to do something for you. At least be responsible to 'take charge' of the situation and talk to them.....at least they would have SOME idea. People DO work with you as long as you work with them.

sorry that might've worked twenty years ago but not now...

MMmm...I see your point, LORI. I guess you really can't take anyone's 'word' these days. Might be worth a shot, though.
