My mother was in a single car accident. The person who was over auto accidents at the hospital my mother was taken to informed me that if my mother didn't survive the auto accident that I could use $5000. medpay to cover her funeral expenses. Her primary insurance was Medicare and she also had supplementary health insurance. She lived 16 days after the accident and died in the nursing home. Now Medicare is hounding the auto insurance company and her estate (she had no estate) for the $5000. I don't understand. Please answer.

Who is handling her affairs? This person needs to call her auto carrier and speak to the adjuster. MP is different from state to state. In some cases, yes there is coverage to address funeral expenses. From what you are saying about what the adjuster told you, it sounds like this is the case. As mentioned, someone just needs to call the insurance adjuster and inquire.

Hello Suefirth, IMO you should be able to use the medpay fund towards funeral expenses. However, the coverage may differ from one policy to another.
Which state are you from? I think Medpay is a requirement in your state, right? That is why the health insurer is seeking recovery from the auto insurer.
