What shouldve I done in this minor car accident?

I was just in a minor car accident today. I am just curious about what happen, purely for learning from any mistakes.

I just just turning left. In UK we drive on left lane. I stopped behind the double-dashed line to "give way" to the traffic on the main road. There was another car with "breakdown flashing lights on" on the main road blocking my way to turn.

While I was still behind the double-dashed line I looked left and right to ensure it was clear. I then moved slowly forward into the main road and maneuvering to overtake the "broken down" car. Suddenly oncoming traffic came round the corner fast so I brake. Another car goes into my rear.

The "broken down car with emergency flashing lights" was sitting on the main road, just pass the "give way" double dashed line from the road I came from.

The main road ahead has a bending corner so it's hard to see traffic until they've come round the corner... usually at speed.

Yeah, I have never understood this. I have seen so many movies/shows across the pond, that I thought driving over there would be easy. Ahhhhhhh yeah, it's not-very CONFUSING!!

I don't know what else you could have done. As far as the driver that hit you, sounds like a case of following to close.

I understand that there was none round the corner. But did you check the lights? Were you actually following green lights?
