Accident wasn't my fault. Why am I being punished?

Drunk driver hit me. I was not at fault. Why do insurance companies quote me higher now since I had this accident? I did nothing wrong and I'm being punished for it!

Have you called them and asked why the increase? Sometimes its not related to an accident and may be an "across the board" increase.

Thats bull. Ive heard of stuff like this happening. When you contact them about this, If there is no reasonable explanation consider shopping around for a new Insurer.

AUSTIN....were you TOLD you were not at fault? Sometimes Insurance companies will 'hike' your rates because you were in an accident...no matter whose fault or what happened. What about the other driver..does he have to pay your damage, etc? Did you have 'Full Coverage'?

Brother, I'd say that its time to look for new carrier. When tcope's explanation can be true, you may still have a chance to get lower quote from another insurer.

How long have you been with this carrier? Were you enjoying any discount on the policy? Have you claimed against you UMPD coverage?

You may also contact your agent to get a possible answer for this hike.

Does sound like you're getting 'the run around.' I would be looking for other carriers.

Don't think we are clear or I'm not on something...based on your statement of:

Why do insurance companies quote me higher now since I had this accident

.how long ago was this accident? is it the carrier that paid for this accident, (your damages) the one that has raised your rates, or are you shopping for ins and this is popping up causing a higher quote? If you are getting quotes from other carriers there could be a lot of reasons their quotes are higher...are the limits and coverages EXACTLY the same? Have you went uninsured for even a day? Have you changed vehicles or added drivers?
