It is very hard to say based on what you told us. You did do the right thing by going and informing the police. If this ever happens again, the first thing you should do is call 911 if you feel threatened or unsafe. The police are here to help us in life threatening situations and it sounded as if you was in one. You should call your agent or insurance company and seek advice from him/her or them and ask what you should do. If you have the other driver's insurance information then you can call them and report the accident if it was not your fault. Since you was rear ended it probably was the other drivers fault.

If you have full coverage insurance then filing the claim with your insurance company is possible. Your insurance company will then go after the other driver to get the payment. This claim will then be on your insurance however. The only other option is to ask the police department for the other driver's insurance information to file the claim. The sooner you can take action the better off you will be.

Always call the 911 emergency number if possible. Your insurance agent should be able to take care of this claim for you and they will go after the other party...You may have to pay your deductible until then though.

You may turn the claim to your insurer and let them handle the issue. If you have the collision coverage, the insurer will cover the damages. However, here are some ways to find the policy information

Your carrier after paying for the damages will use the plate number to track the at fault party, they will pursue him for you...you need do nothing other than give them the information you have...then stay out of it, no need for you to hire an attorney or anything like that....just let your carrier handle the claim....what do you mean by this statement?
agency at first wouldnot pick it up at first but then a supervisor reviewed it and said to begin seeking treatment
