My friend was driving my car. Unfortunately,my car was hit by someone exiting gas station. He hit at the door of driver side.. I called a police and he made an accident report but he didn't say whose is fault. Do I still get cover by insurance even I wasn't a driver at that time?

First, if the other person was at fault you have the option to have the other person's carrier address the loss. They certainly won't care if the owner was not the driver.
If your friend does not live with you then your carrier should not care if he was driving.

Yeah, you should since your friend was driving with your permission. In most states the owner of the vehicle is deemed to be responsible for the damages caused. Therefore, if your friend has caused the accident, the vehicle insurance company would back you up on both the liability and collision issue.
However, a lot would depend upon the policy verbiage. If your policy doesn't specifically exclude operators other than the owner, then most likely you would be covered.

This was a question I have, as well. Sometimes I'm out of town and leave my car with my friend/POA. She is ALSO on my Auto Insurance. If she gets into an accident, my Insurance will cover it? I live in the state of PA.

Insurance covers the vehicle not the driver. Insurance policies are written to protect the vehicle for lenders, financial institutions, banks and individuals. In other words your vehicle should be covered if your vehicle wasn't at fault in the accident. If you vehicle was at fault, then your insurance company will pay for the damages if you had full coverage insurance and you pay your deductible. If this is the case and your friend was considered to be at fault, then you can expect to see an increase in your auto insurance rates as well. However, your friend should have some liability and she should be responsible if she was considered at fault.

Cover damages caused by her? Yes. She is an insured on your policy so she obtains the same coverage (pretty much) as you do. If she has her own policy it could react as excess coverage if needed.Insurance covers the vehicle not the driver.
Not always... as mentioned above, SD's friends own policy also provides her coverage but since there is a primary policy, it's excess. Also, if SD or his friend were driving someone elses vehicle, their own policy (SD's) would also still afford them coverage if needed. But primary coverage is usually obtained from the policy the vehicle is listed which makes it appear that coverage follows the vehicle... but this is not the best way to look at the situation.Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 05:58 pm Post Subject: insurance
TSCOPE_______good explanantion. Thanks. She has never gotten into an accident, in my car, before. But, I was just wondering how she was covered if that DID ever happen. Pretty clear!!

Some companies will cover the loss while others will not. If you have Underinsured motrist coverage and the person that hits you does not have enoug insurance or no insurance your deductible can possibly be waived. Now some companies state in your policy that if anyone drives your vehicle that your insurance will not cover any damage to YOUR vehicle. I won't say any names (MERCURY INSURANCE) =P
One thing I would always suggest is that anyone who drives your vehicle should have insurance. Their insurance will be primary if they get into an accident and if the limits run out then your policy is secondary. Now obviously you can not keep track of everyone's insurance policies so what I would suggest is this.
Make sure that IN WRITING that your policy states that Comprehensive and Collision is covered for an permissive use drivers. If it is not in your current contract then I would recomend that you get a new policy. Since you are not at fault in THIS accident they you really need to make a claim against his insurance.

Okay Gabss, someone can't just come to you to say you have hit his car. And, also the insurance company wouldn't increase your rates for nothing. Please tell us what exactly had happened. Have your carrier paid out any claim to the other driver?
