My car was parked outside of my job and it was hit by a commercial heavy duty truck. My car is a total loss it is a 2001 Chevy Impala. Excellent condition before the accident. There was a police report made and the report won't be ready until Monday 10/27/08. I reported the accident to my insurance the same day as the accident and I'm waiting for the adjuster to call me. My question is I have already checked the cash value of the car which is 7,565.00 will I get this amount or will I get less, I checked it in the Blue book online. Also is the Insurance company going to rent me a car If I ask for it., and will I still kip paying insurance on my car even do I'm not driving it. How does this type of cases work? Your answer will be much appreciated

The value of your car will vary depending on what the insurance compnay uses. When the did the value of my truck they didn't use KBB. Also when you think your vehicle is in excellent condtion sometimes they do not. I took great care of my truck and when they looked it over they found every little microscopic tear and dozens of other things I never even noticed. As for your insurance...my insurer asked me if I would be replacing the vehicle soon and I said Yes...They kept the insurance up to date, I continued to make payments and they just readjusted it ..giving me a discount for the days I was with out my truck. I don't know if all them do this but it was better than letting the insurance lapse and having to turn in my plates and purchasing new plates a little later.

Thank you for replying on my answer, the only thing is that my car was totaled, my car after the accident was in half all of the rear end of the car was inside, my car looks unrecognizable. It was a serious car crash.

Wow that is just awful. There are some really good people here on the site that can help you a lot better than I. I was speaking from personal experience. If you wait someone will be a long shprtly and help you alot better than I can. I am really sorry about your car.

Well, you may need to wait for the adjuster to look at the vehicle. You may not receive the amount given by the Kelly's Blue Book since none of the insurance companies consult it anymore.

You also need to wait for the adjuster to declare the car as totaled. The car may be still repairable and the insurance company may wish to pay for its repair. Honestly, you're not the one to decide whether the car is totaled or not, it depends upon the insurance adjuster to decide.

Thanks,
Rupert

So sorry to hear of your accident but glad you're ok...

The carrier owes you the vehicles ACV (actual cash value)...if you'd like I'll check it with the system my company uses...all are different, but no one I know of uses kbb....I'll need yr/make/model/mileage/ALL options/and any prior UNREPAIRED damages or defects...seat burns, tears, bumper dents..(to the front of course. )...

You have turned this into your carrier as well right? if not you need too...

The other companys adjuster will likely get a hold of you today for a recorded statement...and set up a time to inspect your vehicle...

Thank you Lori, I will truly appreciated if you can help me with checking it with your company. Year 2001 Chevrolet Impala Sedan 4D, V6 3.8 liter, Millage 65,000, Equipment; air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power door locks tilt wheel, AM FM radio, cassette, premium sound, dual front air bags, front side air bags. No body damage, no paint damage very clean. I took good care of my car; it had no defects exterior or interior. My big mistake it was that I was so caught up with what had happen that I just gave all of my information to the police and so did the person at fault (driver) and I did no get a chance to ask for the drivers insurance but all of the information I need is in the police report, so I'm thinking that on Monday I'll contact the other parties insurance. If you like I have pictures of the car I can e-mail them to you, as well as the truck that hit my car.

Molly, Does your car have alumimum or alloy wheels, leather seats, power sunroof, cruise control, power seat?

I need to know these before I can tell you a value..also does it say ''LS" on it anywhere?

Hi Lori, Unfortunately none of the above. It is not an LS, it doesn't have a sunroof or cruise control, power seats or alumimum or alloy wheels no leather seats. Ones again thank you for helping me out.

You will most likely get less for your vehicle. The insurance company will have their own book value which determines the actual value of your vehicle, which often times seems a lot less than the value of nada or kelly blue book. You may have the option to buy back your vehicle at a big discount if you would like. A lot of times this is a good option to drivers if the car is drivable or can be fixed at a decent cost.
