I already have PIP on my car why is that my passenger's PIP on their car is being requested?

This is a technical question but from what I read, all members of the named insured's household are eligible for PIP under the named insured's policy. This leads me to believe that the passengers in your vehicle would get PIP from their own policy and not yours. This might also apply if they are a named insured under their own policy (i.e. they still get PIP coverage from their own policy).
I don't handle claims in MD and it appears that PIP coverage is complicated in that state. So it's difficult for me to know if this is correct.

Tcope, I used to know that the passengers of the car, who sustain injuries in an accident, may also receive coverage under the personal injury protection coverage of the car owner. The PIP coverage is even known to extend the benefit to the pedestrians who are struck by the driver. OPs situation IMO is unique.
