Ok, is someone fighting you for it?

Yeah, we need to know whether you have been challenged by someone on this issue or not. There is no problem for you in receiving the benefits of the policy as you were the named beneficiary of the plan. But a situation may arise if the current family of your deceased ex decides to contest the beneficiary issue.

Hi julie, when you're the named beneficiary of the policy, the insurance company is bound to write the check on your name. In case of life insurance policies the policy holder has the right to name anyone to receive the benefits of his/her plan.

In the words of Joe Gandolfo..."People change when people die."

What do you want to bet some "other" disgruntled relative thinks they should have the money?

After 23 years of paying many, many, many death claims...I've seen this time and time again.

The only way (in Florida) to be absolutely certain your money is going to go to whom you intend is by beneficiary designation of a Life Insurance policy or an Annuity Contract.

Disgruntled relatives and their lawyers can gum up the best laid plans with everything else....

Hey I just noticed that I'm the only male on this thread AND if I click "Submit" this will be my 100th post.

In the Great and Sovereign State of Ohio, for insurance purposes, the beneficiary spouse dies at the time of the divorce. Unless continued coverage is mandated by the judge in the divorce settlement.

Ha ha ha Gary.

To the original question. If you are the beneficiary of the life insurance policy then you should be entitled to the benefit. Unless you are from Ohio it seems. Laws do vary from state to state and province to province so you will find out when you submit a claim. Is anyone challenging you on this? Is there any proof your ex would have wanted you to have the money still?
