We are currenly going thru a process with our insurance company about the price that they are going to pay for our vehicle that was total. We had 20 inch rims on our vehicle that cost us over $3000, but we were told that the only amount that we could get from them (Our Insurance Co.) for our rims, would be $150. How could this be possible?

Chances are that they are _adding_ the $150 to the price of a vehicle with stock rims. So they are really saying that the 20" rims are worth $150 more then the worth of stock rims. Also, they are considering what value the rims add to the vehicle... not the cost/price of the rims. typically rims don't add much value to a vehicle... certainly not as much as they cost. You may want to consider having cheap wheels/tires put on the vehicle, not taking the $150 and keeping the rims/tires.
Also, this is an area where a 3rd party value on this type of item may not be very accurate. You probably want to see if you can supply information to show how the value would be higher on your vehicle with these rims.

As T said, 20" rims only added value to you...not to the vehicle...most (all really) adjusters will allow you to take your rims as long as you replace them with something that will allow the vehicle to roll... I do this all the time with aftermarket items people put on their vehicles...If you don't have the old ones, call a junk yard and see what you can buy four junk tires and wheels .... of course check this out with the adjuster first, but should'nt be an issuePosted: Wed Jun 10, 2009 04:28 am Post Subject:

That is because the rims have also experienced wear and tear along with the car. Moreover, trendy rims are used mostly to accessorize the car than improving its performance. Therefore, it might not contribute too much to the value of the car.

When did you buy those rims?
