I have Seminole casualty insurance coverage. I got into an accident on Dec. 22. Someone came around me on my left while I was in the middle of a left turn. I told the company on the 23. On the same day the car was deemed a total loss and I released custody to Seminole Casualty When I talked to someone about a rental (i don't think it was an adjuster) he told me that the company was investigating the other driver's policy, who also has Seminole, and that if I wanted a rental I would have to pay my $500 deductible. I said no and that was the end of that. The insurance company never told me if the other driver's insurance was real or not. Anyway. After over 2 weeks I have heard very little from the company. They mailed me the total loss paperwork. The estimation for the car was 4387. But they charged me for towing from the accident scene ($130) and my deductible ($500) leaving me with 3751. And I still owe $3600 for the car leaving me to find another car with a down payment of $151. That's ridiculous.

I'm really confused. So who is at fault in the accident? If the other person was at fault, are they paying the claim under that person's policy? If your subject to your deductible it sounds like the claim is being, at least initially, paid under your policy. Have you asked them why they would not pay for the $130 towing bill? I'm guessing the vehicle was not drivable after the accident? If not, where was it towed to?

stranahan, Sounds like they are paying this under your collision coverage, but two or three things are wrong here...First of all I've never heard of rental coverage having a deductible, (it is NOT the same as your collision coverage, but they might be saying you have to use your collision for the rental coverage to kick in which you have...so they owe you a rental), I'm with Tcope in that they most certainly should not be charging you for the tow....that is part of the claim...has anyone talked to you regarding the value of your vehicle etc? Or how they ascertained the value? Do you have a beef with the value? If it is being paid under your collision coverage they owe you the ACV (actual cash value) of your vehicle minus your deductible... Sounds like you need to call this adjuster asap...ask who was found at fault for this loss, if their other policy holder then why are they not paying the claim under that policy rather than your own (no deductible then)....if you can't get your adjuster on the phone, 'zero' out and ask for your adjusters supervisor....
If you'd like me to I'll run a value on your vehicle but I'll need the VIN, yr/make/modle/mileage/all options and any unrepaired prior damage.

Hi tcope, can the insurance company charge the policy holder for the towing expenses? I too was in a similar situation and my car is now sitting in a paying tow yard. Will I be responsible for the bills?
Isn't the two charges covered under the collision coverage? or so I have to have separate coverage to cover the towing expenses?
