My car was stolen Feb. 09 in the evening and I filed the claim the next morning when I woke, Geico stated that I had to wait 20 days. Around March 17th, I received a letter dated for the 03/10 stating they were looking into my comprensive insurance coverages. But on 03/13/09 I received a call from a SIU asking to set up a meeting with me. I called him on 03/16 and set up to meet at my home on 03/19. On 03/23 I received a call from the first adjuster telling me that the SIU was in charge of my case. It has been 60 days since my theft and 59 days since I filed the claim. On 4/07 I called the first adjuster asking what the status was and she left me a message telling me that the SIU adjuster was on vacation and the claim was still pending his investigation. On 04/13/09 I received a letter from her again stating my insurance was delayed because they were verifying my comphrensive coverages again. That is different from what she told me on the phone. On the 04/13/09, I also called the SIU adjuster and he said that my keys were sent out to be examinated. Why are the stories conflicting? One adjuster says one thing and the other says another. Is this ethical?

sounds like they are giving you some sort of run around trying to delay things. Either that or they dont talk to one another and have absolutely no clue what the other is doing or saying when it comes to your issue.

The SIU gets involved in a claim when there are some elements in the claim that would throw a red flag, means suspicion of fraud.
Is there anything that could raise suspicion of the insurance company? Has the vehicle been recovered?
With the SIU involved things might take little longer to get settled but the adjuster is responsible for keeping you update with the proceedings. And, therefore, I too am suspecting that you are hearing different version of the same story because lack of co-ordination between different department.
Just stick around this community has got a bunch of seasoned adjuster and anyone of them might just drop in to this thread anytime.
Thanks,
Rupert

Every state has set a bunch of rules to restrict the insurers from practicing policies that are harmful of the claimant/insured. One of these is delaying to settle a claim unnecessarily. This rule is called the ‘unfair claim practices’. You may check-up the laws with the DOI.
How many times have you been interviewed by the SIU department so far? I agree with Chad, the insurer seems to be giving you a run around.

I have only met with the SIU adjuster once on March 19th. The liability adjuster did not tell me how long the other was on vacation. As of right now my car is still missing. My car was a sport compact with a lot of after market parts including suspension matching the color of my car which is a street value of 3000.00 not to mention the 17 in rims, tv and other fun stuff. When we called the SIU adjuster on Monday, he acted if we were bothering him and he asked my husband if we were in a rush. My husband told him that there isn't a rush but he hadn't called us or talked to us since the meeting I had with him on March 19th. The liability adjuster told me that he was suppose to call me sometime last week or very soon. I did contact my Dept. of Insurance here in CT and gave them all the information but haven't heard back from them as of today. I do have all the letters they have sent me and one phone call that saved on my machine of the first adjuster telling me that it was pending and the letter she sent the same day stating that my comphrensive insurance was being reviewed.

Obviously a red flag was thrown on your account. If you just act cool, tell the truth, you'll get your money.
