My sister allowed a friend to use her car. The car was then stolen while the friend was using it. The police are now telling her that because her friend had premission to use car she is now liable and they can do nothing to retrieve car. Known drug dealer is driveing car & she can not get any help. Where do we turn.

I'm not sure I understand. Were the police able to verify with this friend that the car indeed was stolen? If so, I don't see why they would not treat it as a theft. The part that clues me into the problem is that it appears you know who has the vehicle. As such, I'm guessing there is _much_ more to the story then you mention.

My recommendation, with the limited information posted here, is that the owner of the vehicle speak to a supervisor in the police dept and file a report for Theft by Conversion. That is, the owner gave the driver permission to use the vehicle with the understanding that it would be returned at a certain point. This was not done so the permissive use converts to a theft.

Why do I think the "friend" gave the car to the drug dealer in return for drugs. Your sister needs to reevaluate who her friends are.
