How long should it take the insurance company to issue the claim check for a totalled car?

I have had a vehicle totaled in the past couple years and it usually only took the insurance company a couple weeks to issue a check. Have you signed over the title already? Usually you will need to do this. Also if there was any leins against the vehicle they will have to be satisfied first.
They will be as prompt as can be especially if they have issued you a rental car. They would then get it resolved as quick as possible to save on paying for a lot of days.

It should not take more than a few weeks.

Hi bitsnpieces,

Yes, it's usually just a couple of weeks when you've agreed to the settlement finally and no more investigations are on. Are you quite sure on these counts?

A little bit more of the accident background would have fetched a better answer.

One little thing..when you get the report they send you on how they figured your vehicles value be sure to look through it thoroughly. When my truck was totaled I got a report and I seen they missed the automatic start / keyless entry (key remote) , the cargo cover and a few other things. I called and inquired about those items and they added more value to my vehicle resulting in a bigger check. Little things like those can meake a big difference. If you bought anything after you purchased the vehicle, like a keyless remote, its always best to have the reciept to show the age of the item. If you do not have one they will value the item as an older item and you will reciveve less for it. Hope this helps.

Normally the claim should be processed faster if you are dealing with your insurer and it might take little longer if you have reported the claim to a third party carrier. Its because they have to get all the facts correct before writing the check to you since they are responsible for protecting their policy holder's interest.

It varies carrier to carrier...the company I work for if it's not completely wrapped up within seven days, there WILL be a problem...they want a large percentage of them settled within three days... yeah I know...I work for the big slave driver..
