When you do have to file your business insurance claim you should:
- Get in touch with your insurance agent and the insurance company immediately. Report any burglaries or theft to the police immediately.
- If possible go through your insurance policy and find out how you are covered. You also have certain responsibilities towards your insurance company. Find out from the document.
- Take care that your property does not get further damaged from temporary repairs. If your property needs immediate repairing, make sure you first let the insurance investigator take a look at the damage. This way, you can get your claims adjusted faster.
- When settling for repair, get at least two or more quotations from different repairing companies.
- When you file a claim, take care that you can show how much revenue your business generated before and after the disaster struck.
- Keeping records of business activity and the cost of maintaining a business at a temporary location would be a good idea when settling for claims.
- If you are forced to closed down business you may also include the cost incurred when your business is closed.
- Call your insurance agent immediately. You may also call your claims manager and explain why you are upset with your claim.
- You may also call the consumer affairs or the complaint cell of your insurance provider. Let them know why you think you deserve a bigger settlement. Get enough reasons to give them.
- Get in touch with your state’s department of insurance about your claim settlement.
- If, even after all other options you are still unhappy with your claim settlement, then get in touch with your attorney. Get an attorney who specializes in insurance cases. Let him then take your case from there.
