Hello Friends,

(Links and advertisements hawking "credit repair" schemes removed by Moderator: InsTeacher per Terms of Use. As well, all credit "repair" companies are scams...they can't do anything you can't do yourself and they charge up the ying-yang for their services which are pretty much worthless...ok, I mean completely worthless)

I did not know that. I see commercials all the time, and I was so thinking on using on. I will tell everyone I know. Would CCCS be a scam? I heard about them also don't much about them though

Like anything else, in times of need the scam artists come out of the woodwork. True, non-profit credit-counseling services that have proper credentialing are absolutely legitimate and should be checked out. They deal with your creditors in a manner differently than what you're referring to that appears all over the media.

I'm referring to the "we can save you 90% on your credit card debt" and my favorite: "Due to President Obama's 'Credit Card Reformation Act (more in a minute) the credit card companies are authorized to negotiate dramatic reductions...blah blah blah."

That, in a nutshell, is a bunch of hooey.

The CCRA exists, and was signed into law last year and went into effect this year. It has nothing to do with allowing credit card companies to forgive your debt and the government will give them money. Credit card companies have always been allowed to negotiate debt and commonly do so. This is something everyone needs to be educated on, and there are plenty of great places out there in the great wide world of mostly-useless websites.

One great site is a place called Creditboards...tons of good advice. Here's a link, and to my fellow moderators? Please leave this alone, I'm a member there and it's legit. Thank you, thank you very much.

They have a ton of info on every credit topic imaginable and are a great source of help for every situation out there. As well, this forum used to have a link to one of our sister-sites that was a great credit forum, but I can't find it or remember the name of the forum.

Finally, here's a link to FindLaw.com and info on the Credit Card Reformation Act:
