Do I need insurance for selling food someone else prepared?

I have a healthy living company and am starting to offer "cleansing programs" to my clients as one of my services. A catering company is going to be preparing the food for me, do I need insurance for this as well if the caterers have insurance?

Anyone know what kind of licensing I need for this too? I'm in NYC.

Thanks!

If your catering company doesn't have insurance, then it's going to hit them in the event of a damage. Eventually, it might also affect you. Ideally you should look for business insurance, and organize a strong quality control team.

Of course you need insurance, as does the caterer. If you sell it, and it "cleanses" someone so well they become ill -- or die -- it could have absolutely nothing to do with the caterer and everything to do with you . . . how you stored and/or handled the food after it was delivered . . . or the fact that you might be practicing medicine without a license, which insurance will NOT cover, since that is a criminal offense.

As for other licensing, you'll have to talk to the NYC government for that information. Business license, health department permit, who knows what else? You will probably need to have certification as a "Food Safety Manager".
