Most of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield organizations still offer the traditional "indemnity" (reimbursement) plans, which were once the most common (80/20 coinsurance with a deductible). Today, if one can afford it, the coinsurance is probably more like 70/30 and even 60/40.

Companies like Aetna and CIGNA have mostly steered away from individual plans like this, in favor of HMO/PPO and HDHP platforms. But the traditional plans are still out there -- until they are killed off by Obamacare as being the "cadillac plans" that will be taxed to their insureds.

Will all the existing insureds be taxed? I thought only those who have it after the obamacare comes into effect will be taxed.

As I understand it, the focus is on GROUP health insurance policies, not individual, which are being paid for with pretax dollars. The majority of such plans that exist today have been "grandfathers" until 1-1-2014, and are currently exempt from the taxation scheme enacted by Congress.

But who knows what's buried in those 2000+ pages? Remember the revelation of the so-called "death panels"?? They're probably still in there somewhere -- just under a different euphemism.
