Many insurance companies will write you a short term and long term disability policy but they are usually quite expensive.

You can things like AFLAC and other disability insurance companies. Lots of times they require a physical or waiting period due to pre-existing conditions.

Those types of policies are also quite restrictive in what they will pay out for.

Many independent agents can help you find a short term or long term policy. The problems you may run into are they are often quite expensive, have long waiting periods, and can be restrictive in what they will pay for.

The main point that all of the responders have missed is this:
If you have a known disability -- "I need to have surgery" -- you are not going to qualify for even the most minimal benefit available. It's a pure lose for the insurance company.
While an insurance company only insures "pure risk" -- no chance of profit in a claim situation -- they expect to make a profit every time they issue a policy. And they mostly manage to do that.

Yes i agree, if you have a pre medical condition then no insurance company can take such risk, it is a deal of loss for them.
