My wife is 30 weeks pregnant and people are telling me that my application for travel insurance will be rejected if I try. I know she shouldn’t be traveling this late this late into the last trimester but her father is terribly ill and we need to travel to Belgium to see her family. Do I stand to have my application rejected? Is there a chance that there is a policy with a very high premium?

Insurers would usually cover your wife if she was to return at least 8 weeks before the date of delivery but I this case she is just 6 weeks away from the average date of delivery. It will be quiet a task finding coverage for your wife. Most insurers will classify this as a high risk scenario since there are questions of emergency medical needs, repatriation or the cancellation of the flight or the travel plan itself, and thus refuse coverage.

The answer to this question is usually no, the majority of insurance companies will provide cover up until roughly the 28th week of your pregnancy (around 7 months). Travelling after 30 weeks carries a higher risk of a pre-term birth and is not usually recommended.
