Suppressed Asthma pre-existing condition?

I had asthma till I was about 10 years old. I’m 25 now and it hasn’t surfaced in the last 15 years. Will insurance companies still count it as a pre-existing condition? I haven’t even had any severe lung related issues either (unless you count common cold).

It is not hard to find health insurance coverage even with chronic asthma. In your case, it has been dormant for more than 24 months without showing any medical signs of resurgence. Most state laws won’t permit insurance companies to consider your case as that of a pre-existing condition.

A "preexisting condition" which may be excluded by a health insurance policy is one for which you have received advice, diagnosis, or treatment, or which you had "indications of" within the 24 months immediately preceding your application for insurance or the policy starting date if later.

You may still have asthma as a preexisting condition, but it cannot be counted as such if you have been asymptomatic in the last two years.

Read insurance rules.
