What kind of medical insurance coverage is available for mental illness?

If you are already diagnosed, there is not likely to be coverage available before 1/1/2014. Most health insurance contracts provide limited inpatient and outpatient treatment benefits over a person's lifetime.

OK, fine. Did you have a question? Or were you intending to add something of no value to the discussion?

A couple of things to point out...

A number of states have enacted what are referred to as "parity" laws. These are laws that state that "coverage is coverage" in a medical expense policy. For example, if you have a major medical policy with annual limits of, say, $2,000,000, the parity statutes declare that you have $2 million of coverage REGARDLESS of how the coverage is used. Keep in mind that ObamaCare still allows for annual maximums until 2014. Currently, the law does NOT allow for a policy to have what are called "lifetime limits." We'll see what happens to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA/ObamaCare) when the U.S. Supreme Court announces their decision.

You could use it all on a heart problem, cancer, gout, mental illness, chemical dependency, whatever. Now, not all states have passed these laws... so therefore it's important that you let us know what state you reside in if you want specifics.
