My son has tried to quit smoking. He has been surviving on nicotine gums for around 8-9 months. Will I be able to get the non-smoker rate on his health policy or he has to leave it altogether ? How long till he qualifies for the lowered rates?

The answer to this question is no. Health insurance carriers rate nicotine gum users as smokers. He will have to discontinue using the gum for 12 months to qualify as a non-smoker.

Nicotine gum still delivers nicotine to the body. The medical reports, urine tests will reveal that. You'll have to pay the smoker's rate only.
