Dementia is a cognitive disorder and, generally, is considered a defined disability, making it a preexisting condition, if so. Unless a person was insured prior to its diagnosis, it can currently be the basis of a decline for insurance. The good news is that with Obama returning for a second term, it is unlikely that his namesake, Obamacare, will be overturned and insurance companies will be prevented from turning anyone down for health insurance on and after 01/01/2014. And because the health insurance companies will no longer be able to charge substandard premium rates, everyone else's cost of insurance will increase -- contrary to the assurance that health insurance will cost less. That, friends, was someone's pipe dream.
