I applied for indivial health insurance two weeks ago thru a broker who incorrectly filled out my application and reported that I had Downs Syndrome which I do not have. The Ins. Commpany declined my application. Upon questioning them I was told to get Doctors letter staing that I do not have this condition. However my Cobra ins. runs out Dec 15. What can I do

What's so hard about getting your doctor to verify your health status?

In the meantime, find another agent and apply to another company. There are more than just the one, you know. Plus, you should be able to convert your group plan to an individual plan without any questions when your COBRA continuation ends. Speak to the company you are currently insured with about this.

Then, again, maybe you will want to sue the agent who misrepresented your health status. But you signed the application for insurance . . . did you not look at it to determine that everything was correct? Or did you sign a blank application?

You should also make a complaint to your state's Dept of Insurance. Down syndrome is not normally a condition that would warrant being declined for coverage.

It sounds like it was probably an honest mistake and all you need to show the insurance carrier is your doctors note?

Sounds easy!
