My apologies for the delayed response, but I was involved in a policy analysis and report all day on Friday 12-28.
Medicare Supplement insurance is also "age-rated" -- the premium for a specific plan will be based on the insured's attained age, and coverage may be declined based on prior health issues -- unless a person applies for the coverage during the first six months following enrollment in Medicare Part B, in which case they may not be declined, but could be rated substandard.
For many people, choosing a Medicare Advantage HMO or PPO is a more beneficial option. The cost is far lower (as low as $0), and the benefits are far superior. Speak to a local agent about the plans available in your area. If you are in California, you could also speak to me.
