This is like asking what is better, beer or hamburgers. The two types of insurance have nothing to do with each other -- they serve completely different purposes. Many people need both, but it's not an either-or proposition.

You're nuts. And your English as a Second Language skills don't help. Your "jeffsmith" alias is showing.

There is nothing to discuss. If I were to ask you for your opinion on beer, what good would it do me to hear you talk for days about hamburgers?

Both provide life time protection.Life insurance is very important. It is to protect your loved ones from finance and health insurance is also compulsory. It provide protection and benefits.

health insurance is also compulsory.

Not until 1-1-2014, and even then a person can choose to skip the insurance and pay a $95 "tax" for the privilege of not being insured (that will increase to $350 in 2015, and $750 in 2016).

So what's a person to do? Pay $500 per month for something they don't believe they need or pay $8 per month as a penalty for not paying $500? The $492 in monthly savings could be invested and earn a return that could be used in the future to pay medical expenses.

Most people won't be subject to the penalty because of income requirements. For those who are subject to the penalty, there are ways around it.

Life insurance is compulsory and so is health insurance. Both serve their own purpose and it's an individual's choice completely. I'd say, go for both.

Life insurance is compulsory

Where in the world is this true? It is not true anywhere in the United States.

Please explain. The law states that the penalty is the lesser of 2.5% of Modified Adjusted Gross Income or $95 in 2014, $350 in 2015, and $750 in 2016. There are no escapes except for certain verifiable religious exemptions.

Your numbers are slightly wrong, but that isn't important. Also, the tax is whatever is greater and not whatever is lesser.

The more important point is that there are exemptions. The biggest exemption is for those who will find health insurance "unaffordable". This means that premiums are above 8% of their income. I am not sure what is counted as "income". If insurance costs $500/month, this will exempt anybody who has an income of less than $75,000. For a family, if coverage is $1000/month, the exemption would be for family incomes of under $150,000.

Also, the penalty is monthly and one can go three months without coverage. "Coverage" is any month in which coverage was in force for one day. Therefore, it is possible to avoid a penalty by only having coverage for 9 days total for the year.
