Now when the Obamacare is about to kick off, how can I avail health insurance? I don’t qualify for Medicaid as I have no income. I am 29, single male. I stay with a few friends. If they kick me off the house, that’d be literally kicking my nuts off. I live in Iowa and won’t be able to pay a single penny for health insurance. Thanks!

You may qualify for free or low-cost health coverage through Medicaid. You can apply for Medicaid at any time. Medicaid is a state-run program that provides health coverage for qualified individuals, families, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The eligibility rules for Medicaid are different for each state, but most states offer coverage for adults with children whose income is at or below the federal poverty level. If you have Medicaid, you don't need to buy an insurance plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. If you were to buy a Marketplace plan instead, you would have to pay the full cost.

The health care law gives states the option of expanding Medicaid eligibility to include low-income adults between the ages of 19 and 64 who do not have dependent children. Beginning in 2014, low-income adults under age 65 may qualify for Medicaid in many states. To find out if your state is expanding its Medicaid program, please contact your state Medicaid agency"

Alternatively, you could use HealthCare.gov to find this information and what programs you may qualify for, as well as find and apply for coverage, compare plans, and enroll in a health insurance plan starting October 1, 2013.

You can get in touch with your state's Medicaid office since you should be given the benefits as prescribed under Medicaid. If your annual income is such that you wont have file a federal income tax return, then you don't need to have health insurance through Medicaid or from any other carrier in 2014. And there will be no tax penalty for you for failing to have coverage.

However, if there is more that you are seeking, then you may go through the website coverageforall.org. These people can get you in touch with the right state agencies that can help you to enroll yourself in Medicaid or any other type of coverage.

Who told you this? All persons in all states with incomes below 133% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) qualify for Medicaid. In 17 states and the DC, on 1-1-2014 that percentage will increase to 138%. FPL varies some for residents of Alaska and Hawaii, but $11,490 annual income is 100% FPL in 2013 for an individual in the "lower 48 states and the DC"..

If you were to buy a Marketplace plan instead, you would have to pay the full cost.

Just what part of "no income" allows a person to pay the full cost? And there are the premium tax credits that can be used to reduce or eliminate the cost. So don't pay much attention to MangoQurious on this subject. If he were a licensed insurance agent with the same level of knowledge, he would be dangerous.

Only the last sentence here is correct. Another faux paus by adamsarthur who really knows very little about health insurance that he doesn't copy from other websites.

If a person has no health insurance, who will pay the bills when that person needs care? Persons with low/no income (as described above) are eligible for enrollment in Medicaid. Their "share of cost" is based on their ability to pay.
