Medicare only covers "medically necessary" procedures and treatments. If the procedure is not considered medically necessary, Medicare will pay $0.But if the procedure is medically necessary and not otherwise excluded by Medicare (experimental procedure, cosmetic, etc), then Medicare will provide secondary coverage. It may or may not cover 100% of an unpaid balance. You can inquire about this at any Social Security Office in advance.
