Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to read this and providing any answers.
My boyfriend and I plan to get married in the very near future and have some questions regarding Medi-cal and health insurance in general.
He is currently on Medi-cal (for income and disability reasons) and I have insurance through my employer. He is also technically employed but has not been scheduled to work in the past three months and has just recently started collecting unemployment because of this. His benefits will run our in the next 4-5 months.
Once we get married, I understand my income will be taken into consideration with regards to his Medi-Cal benefits.
As far as I can tell, he would not qualify for medi-cal because we would surpass the income threshold. However, I've been reading about the Working Disabled Medi-Cal Program and think we might qualify for that.
My questions is this, can he still apply and qualify for Medi-cal while I am enrolled in my employer sponsored health plan?
My employer also offers a spouse option at a significantly higher premium.
I also don't foresee him getting too many hours in his current job. and he would be determined disabled under the SSI definition.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Should I be talking to a Medi-Cal specialist?
Thanks!

If your employer-sponsored health plan offers dependent coverage, your new husband will automatically be ineligible for Medi-Cal or any health plan on the CoveredCA exchange with premium tax credits applied.
Household MAGI is the determiner of Medi-Cal eligibility.
