Does anyone out there have experience with settling an uninsured (hit and run) claim. The insurance company gave us fair value for the car which was totaled, but they want to settle the injury/missed work/pain&suffering/etc. part and I'm not sure what is a fair amount. I'm not looking to make money, only get what is typically paid out in these settlements. Any help is appreciated.

The preverbial, "damned if you do, damned if you don't".. I know exactly where you're coming from, ''the only good claim is a closed one''.
While we certainly have to get them closed asap, (don't know about you tcope), but I have NEVER been pressed to push someone into settlement or pressure them if they were not ready have you? Of course, as you said, we are required to bring it up from time to time, to check their status. Also folks (mostly outsiders meaning people not actually in the claim but bystanders if you will), see it as we just want to 'force' people into settlement, to do it as cheaply as possible and that is our motivation, which is quite the contrary.
In any other industry it would be considered great customer service to check on status, ie, 'how you doing? feeling better? Just wanting to check in and see if you ready to discuss settlement at this time?" Isn't it funny how it works...
Since I've got off on a bit of a tangent..ha ha....wish I could put up a bill board somewhere that said, 'I don't get paid any more to pay you less', or 'My pay is not based on me short changing you'....do you find that predisposition often?
