I have recieved a vehicle that had been stolen, interior ripped out. The insurance company totaled the car. I have come to find out that the vehicle had a value of 15k-18k at the time of total. The parts to fix it have added up to $1600 or 10% of the value. After talking with my isurance friend he said a total will happen at about 60%. How do I get the insurance company to re-instate the title?

Good morning Catmandu and welcome.

Need a little more information please, what do you mean by,

I have recieved a vehicle that had been stolen

Does that mean you bought it, and then discovered it was a recovered theft?

After talking with my isurance friend he said a total will happen at about 60%.

Your friend is 'kind of' right. States have different criteria for instance my state and a neighborning state recently raised this from 70-80%. I imagine what happened in this case is the vehicle wasn't recovered until after the policy ''wait'' limit (usually 30days), so the company would've settled it. Then the vehicle was recovered and the insured didn't want it back. Then you bought it somewhere I guess?
If this is correct, then

How do I get the insurance company to re-instate the title

The insurance company doesn't 'reinstate' titles, I'm assuming you want the title cleared of salvage status? Contact your local DMV and see what the process is to do that. In my state after repairs you have to take it to the Highway Patrol for an inspection then if it 'passes' they will remove the salvage title, but it will always say, 'prior salvage title'. Again this is state specific.

hi yeah!
Thats quite true, anything associated with the title can be commented upon the knowledge of your state & the guidelines. Please forward us that information, so that we may come up with some concrete suggestions.

Yupp...to get it out of its present status is not impossible even if not too easy!
Even after adding on a good 10% if its now up to 60%, then it would depend also on the state of some of the specific parts which need to be quite active & safe at the patrol test. All the best, Cordialanonymous
