A rock fell out of a truck on the freeway and bounced accross my hood. I didn't see the license plate. My insurance agent said that mercury will raise my rates if I turn this in because it is a "solo accident". It isn't my fault a rock hit my car! Can they do this? I've never had a claim before. I've paid them every month for years. It will be $1200 to fix and my deductible is $500.

With my insurance either way they said that I had a $500 deductable and that the damage was lower than that so, I foot the bill. Live and learn, I don't go out at lunch time anymore, lol, wait till a little later when all the lunch time traffic is off the road. Just seems like the time things happen to me, so to be safe I am staying in.

I live in UT... instead of the slogan, Greatest Snow on Earth, the slogan should be Home of the Road Rocks. I can't tell you the number of times my vehicles have been hit by rocks. About 1 month after I got my new truck... windshild got a small chip from a rock. One week after I got my new car, two big chips on the front hood (thank goodness it's a company car). Trucks are terrible here. There is no law requiring them to cover their loads (I think this is just stupid). So not only do rocks fly out of the dump trucks but they also land on the road and are thrown up by other trucks.

Thanks Lori, apparently, I did not ask enough questions or the right questions. Live and learn or should I say burn and learn, LOL.

Here too tcope...''some'' of them have signs on their trucks saying ''stay back 100 feet'' like that really makes any difference. We also have grain trucks, and let me tell you corn going 100mph does the same damage. My company vehicle's w/s is pitted one end to the other. I average about 150 miles a day. Seems that I have to have a w/s replaced (because eventually the chips turn to cracks), every other year! Again, glad a co vehicle and I'm not paying for it! We also have snow of course, and the sand and salt kicks up causing almost as much damage. I think some stuff is just plain 'road hazard' but agree, ALL loads should be tarped, at least ''attempting'' to protect the public...

We have had three fatalities in about two months from coal trucks hitting drivers that have had their turn signals on and in the turning lane.

I think these families need put up billboards with pictures of their dead loved ones on it and say, "this is why you need paid by the hour"

Most of these trucking companies paying by the load, I think this is one of the biggest hazards on the road these days. It is just ridiculous the people that are killed by these maniacs on the road. Even after these three deaths in our area, the trucks have NOT slowed down. The police say they are too short staffed to set up radar in the main places that these accidents happened. It is a shame.
