Any Allstate policy written in a coastal area in the past year (including the mid-atlantic region) has a 2% deductible for "tropical cyclone" damage.

2% sounds low right? On a home insured for $300K its $6,000.

I'm sure your agent did not highlight this for you- they may have even hidden it. Check your policy declarations- its right there.

What is a 'tropical cyclone'? Ask Allstate.

TCD deductibles can either be percentages, or specific dollar amounts. Personally I chose 500$ deductible for both all peril, and TCD. I pay a little more, but I live in south Louisiana, so the extra premium is worth it.
TCD's are not "water spouts" they are any named storm, which means anything from a tropical depression to a cat 5 hurricane. Also, once a storm is name, it is considered to be a named storm for the extent of its life. For example, if a tropical depression is downgraded to just a nasty storm, the insurance company will still treat the storms effects as TCD damage.
